Amber Artisan’s Teething Necklaces [Review and Giveaway!]

Amber necklace from Amber Artisans in Lithunia I don’t really know how to start this review because it is SO subjective, and I really have no proof.  So instead I’ll tell you the story of how I stumbled upon the Amber Artisans and their teething necklaces for baby.

At the beginning of January another attack of the teething monster erupted in the mouth of my almost two year old. The canines were coming in. No big deal. I am not adverse to Tylenol, Advil, or Orajel. In fact, they are secretly my go to guys for teething. But these canines have been horrible! One tooth coming in slowly [1-2 weeks per tooth]. And one baby who waddled around the house whining and crying and wanting to be carried ALL day long.

After a month something HAD to change. I couldn’t/didn’t want to medicate for so long a duration. But with two other kids, her fussing and crying all day wasn’t an option in my mind. Then one of my friends mentioned amber teething necklaces. I’d never heard of them. Here is the beta:

  • They aren’t designed for chewing on [like I originally thought].
  • They are designed to be worn by baby while they are teething in order to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • How? I am not even going to attempt to explain. But I will let the people who make them:

Amber is not a “stone” but a natural resin. So as it warms with the body’s natural temperature, amber releases its healing oils (these oils contain succinic acid )which are easily absorbed into the skin and then into the bloodstream… Amber is also known to reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach and to fight irritation, infections and respiratory disease as it dramatically improves the body’s immunity. Natural amber beaded necklaces are a completely non-invasive remedy for side effects associated with teething, such as lack of appetite, upset tummies, ear ache, fevers and colds. Baltic amber is also a natural analgesic that will calm your child and is recognized by allopathic medicine specialists as antispasmodic and anti-fever.

I am a skeptic. As much as I love the thought of all natural remedies, I don’t inherantly believe in them. But I decided to give it a try. After all, I was DESPERATE.

So a few week ago I received a necklace to test [and one to giveaway] all the way from Lithuania. I was impressed just by getting a package from so far away. 🙂

Amber teething necklaces for baby I slipped it on my youngest and waited. I tried not to make any judgements for a couple of days. And after a week I sort of forgot about it. Cause well, she wasn’t fussy anymore. Then I thought, “Well, how do I know it is working? Maybe she isn’t teething anymore.” But I looked in her mouth and during the last week she had another new canine emerge through the gums. So did it work for us? Yes, it really did.

I do have to add that amber necklaces aren’t as “on/off” as Tylenol. While it decreased her fussiness [and I assume her discomfort], she wasn’t perfectly happy and energetic like nothing was wrong. She just wasn’t miserable.

Now for my thoughts on the craft of this specific necklace:

  • The necklace is perfectly sized for baby [as in mommy cannot hijack it]. It isn’t so loose it snags, nor so tight it chokes.
  • In crafting the necklace, they knotted the cord between EACH bead meaning 1. if it  happened to break, all the beads would not scatter and 2. they will not pinch the skin or hairs on baby’s neck.
  • It has a screw clasp – the screws are part of the amber beads, meaning the clasp is invisible when on.
  • They are super cute! And if you are thinking, “I don’t want my boy wearing a stinkin’ necklace!” Well, ideally they are worn against the skin, meaning they are tucked inside their shirt most the time anyways…

  1. For some reason it wouldn’t let me leave a comment on my phone in the prompt above, but I can still leave one here… I am really glad you posted this because I too am skeptical, but respect your opinion, and now I am really curious! I think the cognac colored bead necklace on their site is really pretty.

    • Thanks for letting me know. I see it marked ya down in the raffle as having left a comment. Did you do it again on a different computer? or did it just begin working from your phone? Thanks friend!

  3. Great information! Some things to be aware of:
1st There is lots of fake amber from China now, so it’s very good idea to ask your seller for amber certificate!
2nd i would recommend to try unpolished amber first. It looks less appealing than polished one, but supposed to work better.
Other than that amber teething necklaces are great way to help your baby teething without use of drugs. Natural way!

  5. I’m quite hesitant for fear of the baby choking on these “beads”. Since I’m finding a lot of positive reviews on it, I’m going to purchase one and give it as a present to my niece, who is currently undergoing teething stage. I hope it helps the mom get more sleep too. I found some safety certified ones on Oz Savers. Ehe.

  8. I have two little cousins that I have to travel with because their mum is very busy so them are like my own children and sometimes they call me mum ! And the main problem was traveling with them during teething period … it was : OMG ! I neede something that I can care with myself to give for a children to make them be calm.. I tried everything that I found on the internet becasue according to the NHS website you can use painkilling medicine that is designed especially for babies such as Calpol/ baby tylenol. . It makes me feel that : brrr…so I decided to use natural thing.. and one of my friends recommended necklaces from amber for babies teething.

  9. Hi Alyssa, I found your post while google ing about amber artisans teething necklace. 2 years after your post there are plenty of teething baby in need of comfort during this harsh times. My girl, Kira is 11 months old and teething for about a month.
Just wanting to make an offer on the necklace if you consider it selling it. On the artisan website, most of the items are sold out.
    Thanks in advance
    Happy spring climbing 🙂

    • Alina, I cannot believe they are all sold out! If we decide to sell it, I’ll let you know. My youngest, now age 4 has become so attached to the necklace she wears it everyday still. Not kidding. But eventually she’ll grow out of it, right?!

  10. Hi Alyssa. I have a 2 month old boy who is teething something terrible and I was in a store when my son was 4 days old. A man came up to me and told me all about Baltic Amber and it’s healing properties. I researched and decided that I want one when he starts teething, well it came a little too early and I’m not sure what to do while I’m trying to save up the money for one. My husband and I just bought a house and oh my does a lot of work, time, and money go into a new home. If you have any advice I’d be more than grateful for it.

    • I didn’t think that the amber necklaces were all that expensive. Some vary from $6-$20. Though I cannot comment on whether there is a quality difference. As for other option, I’d try frozen fruit to sooth and numb the gums, if you are worried about choking then sue one of the mesh feeders from gerber and found at most grocery stores. We also did the usual Tylenol and Oragel. Good luck!
