Trips and Tips in a Jar

Why, Why, Why?!

Honestly, I am sitting down this morning, with a warm cup of coffee and thinking, why do we do trip reports?

Bragging, rights? One giant leap into the cyber-world, hoping someone acknowledges our existence and proves our lives valid?

Why do I read trip reports?
Well, honestly, I don’t [very often]. If I click the link at all, I skim for cool photos. Something that might inspire me to read more. When I do read a trip report I am looking for something specific – something in the form of we-are-going-to-that-location-next-month and I want beta on what to expect. OR I am looking for gear and tips to make my own outdoor adventures more successful.

I won’t for one minute kidd myself that anyone other than my family wants to read a blow-by-blow of our rompings in nature. If I am wrong, please correct me :).

So I am writing this to share a little of our vision – before I do launch into a new series of trip reports on Moab, UT. I plan on sharing destinations and information relevant to a parent that might just be going where we went, and wants to come prepared.

Along with this we are launching a new feature called The Tip Jar: where we will share our top 5 gear/tips/tricks that led to success on the trip. These could be epic camping trips or a day at the local zoo. Our hope is to spread some love of bringing the kids along in your adventures -quickie style.

So, join us. Feel free to pass on your “top 5” from your trips! See ya soon, in trip-land-ville.

  1. I’m sitting here enjoying my morning coffee and thinking you’re probably right. Love the Tip Jar idea. I end up posting almost only trip reports sometimes because I feel like those stories and photos are the only interesting things I have worth sharing. But thinking about it, when I read other family’s trip reports, I look for the routes they climbed, what the area was like for kids, and think about how I might do it someday. So, highlighting those issues is a really good idea.

    • Kate, thanks! We will see how it goes. Sometimes hearing other people’s stories is good too, mostly cause then I realize they are human and everything doesn’t always go perfect for them. But I do want to keep my ramblings a little limited to the practical stuff :).
