- Burley is launching 3 awesome new, top of the line, child bike trailers on March 1, 2019: the Cub X, D’Lite X, and Encore X.
- This is what Burley has to say about the Encore X:
- “Perfect for the active family, the Encore X kids bike trailer and double stroller with suspension provides smooth rides on gravel or bumpy trails. Quickly transition from biking to strolling with the included stroller kit. Compatibility with all the Burley conversion kits opens up the option for jogging, strolling, or skiing adventures. The Encore X features seat pads, tinted side and rear windows with UV protection, and a sunshade for bright days. Explore the road less traveled with your little ones comfortably in tow!”
- Tested in: March 2019, running and biking
- Cost: $599
- Availability: Most major retailer including REI, Backcountry, Amazon (see links below)
- Best Use: Bike trailer or walking stroller for kids. Can be used for jogging/skiing with proper attachment.
- Selling Points:
The Burley Encore X Kid Trailer can be used as a biking trailer or stroller with the one wheel attachment.
This trailer has high handlebars for good posture and optimal form while walking. The Burley is lightweight and is easy to push with even with 70 lbs. of kid in it. The trailer is easy to assemble and takes approximately 20 minutes to put together (with kids hanging off of you) and less time if you don’t have kids around. 🙂
There is great cargo space for storage along with seat room for two infants-toddlers/young kids.
The stroller wheel in front makes it easy to turn and maneuver.
The trailer is narrow enough that allows it to fit through a regular doorway with ease, without sacrificing comfort for the passengers. It is easy to pull (even uphill) and turns corners easily. I believe the narrow size made it easy to maneuver around corners on the trail and sidewalk.
The bike trailer attachment hook is easy to use and also stays attached to the trailer (unlike our InStep Trailer) which makes it easy to not lose. The wheel for the strolling feature folds up when using the bike attachment and down for walking use.
Desired Improvements:
A kid’s cup holders would be amazing as well as a cup holder for the adult when it is in stroller mode. Purchasing these separately could be worth it. I noticed when I used the bike trailer that it is a little easier to wobble due to the narrow size. It is fairly sturdy but just smaller and more impacted by certain bumps in the road/sidewalk than other wider and bulkier double strollers I’ve used.
The Bottom Line:
The Burley Encore X is a very useful and well designed piece of equipment. Useful for families trying to stay mobile and active, this trailer offers comfortable seating without being too bulky. The lightweight design makes the trailer easy to pull with a bike or push as a stroller. I think the versatility of this trailer and it’s efficient use of space and weight makes it a high end product that will be valuable for families for many years!
