Last week we published a basic guide to kid jackets, collecting and publishing a handful of favorites from other outdoor enthusiasts. This is the follow up post, as today I am sharing #OutdoorFamilies favorite ski and snow pants. Updated as of Winter 2016/2017 Click on the photos below for a link to a more detailed review or retail information!
L L Bean kids 3-in-1 Snowpant
“The L.L. Bean 3-in-1 snowpant is a layering system that includes a super warm fleece liner pant that can be worn with or without the waterproof shell pant. This is a great pant for those needing super warm pants part of the season and lighter weight pants later in the spring. The outer pant has great details like reinforced knees, and rear and side pockets. A perfect pant for the wide variety of conditions found in the Rockies.”

“
Columbia Bibs with OmniShield: Columbia Bibs with Omnishield have performed awesomely, both in keeping my toddler warm and dry without being bulky. I like bibs because they stay up while keep snow from going where it shouldn’t. The shoulder straps are highly adjustable, allowing us to get multiple years of use. They also added small things like velcro straps to tighten the waist and thick reinforced fabric between the legs.”

“
Ducksday Rain Suit for mild winters: I love Ducksday because it keeps my little guy warm and dry without having to pack loads upon loads of extra clothes. Their layering system is ideal for families who spend lots of time outside in varying weather conditions.”

“
Spyder Ski Pants Best ski pants ever for kids? Spyder pants with full side zips. Originally designed for kids who ski race, full zips are one of those features that make quick changes easier. With the zips, you can unzip the pant leg from waist to ankle, meaning you can take off the pants without having to step out of the ski boots.”

“
Trespass Snow Pants We happened across Trespass Kid’s Ski Pants on a sale rack a few years ago and love them. These unisex pants come with optional suspenders that keep them up and in place and provides some protection from snow going up their back. The inner snow cuff around the ankle works well with ski boots and snow boots alike. They are a great combination of warmth, performance, price and style.”

What we loved about Snow Dragon Bib:
-Wide shoulder straps and a high neckline that prevent it from falling off the shoulders (a common problem with traditional bibs). The soft fleece upper that will add a nice extra layer of insulation
– Grow Cuffs in the legs – perfect for my tall girl
– Waterproof pants with reinforced knees

Ducksday Snowpants – “These are high quality ski pants at a great price! I love the velcro straps for tightening up the waist and the zippered leg which makes getting boots on and off with the snow cuff easy. Ducksday adds reflective detailing, great for those dark evening sledding trips! These pants are warm, with attractive fabric, reinforced inner legs and great moisture management!”

“
MEC Toaster Suit: The MEC toaster suit comes in sizes from 6 months all the way up to size 6 for children. Like a toasty bunting suit, your child will stay warm without any gaps for snow to get in. Because it has no attached feet, children can wear normal boots too, which we appreciate.”

Helly Hansen Jr. Legend Pant
“We like the
Helly Hansen Jr Legend Pant because they have reinforced knees, optional loops to go around boots when needed but can be removed otherwise. They come in an insulated version which is great in the winter and also a rain version perfect for spring, summer and mud… Most recently our oldest started wearing Jr Legend Pants. He likes that they aren’t bib style as he’s seven now and wants to be less like a little kid.”

MEC Toaster Suit sounds amazing. I feel like I just found the perfect winter suit for my kids!!!! So, I googled the brand, found the site, and low and behold they don’t ship to the USA. Has anyone found the MEC suit anywhere in the States? It sounds like the perfect snowsuit for us.
Here is a similar brand that has mitten covers, hood, etc but not the feet so you can used regular boots. I’ve never tried one of these suits but have their “big kid” jackets/pants and have loved their stuff: http://www.ollieandstellaoutfitters.com/~shop/snowsuits/ducksday-baby-ski-suit-funky-red/214630/?catId=39825

Valerie- I will post this question on our Kid Project facebook page and see what people say. Bummer they don’t ship to the US! I have heard that they are very similar to REI – I wonder if they have a similar product…
REI has a down bunting that we used for C from 6 months til about 18 months. It was awesome, and probably very similar to the MEC one.
I’m scared the Columbia won’t be warm since it feels so light… Any insight?
We did not have this problem with the Columbia Pants. They were lined and easily just as thick as any of the other pants listed. And of course we layered fleece long johns underneath which really helps. Another pant I am testing currently and will no doubt update the post with is the L.L Bean 3-in1 snow pant. Comes with a very thick inner liner (removable) and are super warm!
Alyssa- how did the 3-in-1 work for yall?? Any thoughts or updates? Thanks in advance for your assistance!
My son is on his second season and we love them. The best ski/snow pants we’ve found! The thick fleece under pant is removable and he wears them as a warm layer for backpacking and camping year-round! They are very warm under the shell pants, which are both durable (so far) and more stylish than many of the simple snow pants we’ve seen. I give both them and the 3-in-1 pant by LLBean a double thumbs up.
